Strongly Independent But In Need To Let Their Guard Down
Teyana’s has never been a stranger to laying everything she has going on down on a track.
Her ability to create such a resemblance of herself with her fans through topics of love and self reflection makes her this week’s Album of The Week.
We’ve all been at the crossroads of love and and life. Debating on wether we should move forward from old situations or rekindle the flame.
It’s a quick way to send us in our feels over the most toxic or emotionally unavailble lover we have in our life. But Teyana doesn’t focus on just the downsides of love that makes us wanna sing anthems like the album intro “Come Back To Me” [Featuring her daughter, Junie & #RickRoss - Track 1] or the blunt talking “Wrong Bitch” [Track 12].
She looks for restoration to resolve those conflicts creating the calm after the storm. A personal favorite of mines is “Concrete” [Track 16]. The bliss & vulnerable track that calls for a session of couple awareness. It’s 3 minutes & 57 seconds of Teyana laying down her call for change to restore a bond harder than concrete.
LOVE IS THE VOCAL POINT OF THIS ALBUM. It expresses all the stages… the gut wrenching honesty [The #Aaliyah influenced “Try Again” - Track 19], the sensual heartbreak moments [“Shoot It Up” ft. #BigSean - Track 13] & of course the intimate reconnections [“69” - Track 9]. Teyana knew that she was creating a modern day masterpiece on how relationships play out for women in the year 2019 that still connects to the girls now and ofcourse forever on.
Teyana’s modern take on classics like #ErykahBadu ’s Next Lifetime [“Lowkey” - Track 4] or #MusiqSoulchild ’s Just Friends (Sunny) [Friends - Track 20] and few others prove that her understanding on love comes from legends who articulate their meaning of it in a unique way just like herself.
Teyana’s viewpoint about love made me understand that a simplistic bond will never be enough for this generation, it’s all about the feels. It’s the music that puts in that moment where you’ll be saying “wow, could this really be my forever thing?” And with “THE ALBUM” becoming your daily life soundtrack, you’ll find the answer sooner than you think.
