"Actively Learning To Not Let A Heartbreak Drag You, But Build You."
Summer Walker’s Long Awaited Sophomore Album “Still Over It” Is Here
& if you haven’t gotten the urge to text back your ex then this album has done it’s deed.
#StillOverIt has created the conversation that most tend to ignore:
“How do you go about taking the time to learn from your mistakes while saying f*ck the high road?”
In 2019, we seen Summer Walker come out with her debut project “Over It”,
shining a light on the beauty beyond the madness that is love, introducing to the next generation the emotional tug that comes with putting yourself in a vulnerable position when it comes to finding the one. And when it comes to that, you gotta go through a rough patch but there’s only so much you can take until you reach your breaking point.
& with this Album we have Summer reaching her breaking point and getting her energy out by doing what she does best, creating a masterpiece.
Starting Off with “Bitter” [Track #1] an immediate stand out, that is the catalyst stating the emotion from the jump about the down hill spiral that is Summer’s Love Life w/ #LondonOnDaTrack. A song that fuels the inspiration for the rest of the album creating a strong narrative that we will finally hear Summer’s side of the story.
Although there are some tracks that bring back the fun & grooves that were held in Walker’s debut project “Over It” like “ Ex For A Reason” featuring #CityGirls ’s #JT & #TheNeptunes produced “Dat Right There”. Summer took a more direct and raw approach when it came to talking about the situation at hand.
With wall sliding anthems like “Closure” [Track #12] & “Broken Promises” [Track #16] we start getting into the depth of the album revealing Summer’s attempts with how she first tried to recover from the #RedFlags seen in the scenario. Showcasing the blindness caused from wanting things to work with the lover you believe is “The One”.
Sometimes we never fully understand things until they blow up in our faces and that’s when the envy and anger comes out and Summer shows those emotions through the standout track “4th Baby Mama” [Track #19] an unapologetic read from the R&B songstress expressing her boiling point with how her ex partner’s ways have gone with no consequences for so long.
And lets not forget the the head shaking #Quadfecta of back to back tracks [#9-12] “Constant Bullshit”, “Switch A Nigga Out”, “Unloyal” & “Closure” displaying the pain of realization that shit will never change with this man.
With this album being filled with 20 tracks it’s important that you explore the project for yourself,
This album serves not just as a Contemporary R&B staple but as a diary, a therapy session, and what most would call the answer to their biggest prayer, an opportunity to be understood without sugarcoating their words.
