The best thing I feel like anyone can do is reflect.
Reflect on the path you were once on and how you live to tell the future generations. And With SiR’s vivid storytelling and dynamic vulnerability, the poetry anthology that is “HEAVY” shows that while the path ahead of you can be beautiful, it can also be just as tragic.
Soon as you step into the album’s intro “HEAVY” [1], you are at the height of his fame with every interaction dealing with the feeling of pragmatic remorse yet it’s in the feels of vivid wins and softness that is associated with “the high life”.However, as you transition into “IGNORANT” [2] you build the adrenaline to work through it, but it still isn’t enough.
That’s when the rawness of “KARMA” hits [3 - featuring fellow TDE mate, Isaiah Rashad] and you get the sense of the whole plot. A journey of growth begins, but not before…
a fall from grace.
SiR is a man of enticing awareness & a strikingly reflective pen that shows his turmoil and healing process. And with the phrase “I need to stop treating hoes like I need 'em/I’m too busy making promises when I can't keep 'em”, it’s proven that honesty is the leading catalyst for SiR, Inglewood’s foremost poet.
Through the sonically gripping of “HEAVY” [4] you follow the vessel of pain heard in his voice. His awareness of life becomestoo fast and hits on the realization that when you settle you often become numb. And that yearning of safety often fades away until it’s almost all gone, that’s when you get the wakeup call.
On “SIX WHOLE DAYS” [5] it’s imminentthat SiR is clearly flawed yet his approach is homegrown and filled with the desire of finding redemption. But how? self-reflection. And with the abstract production of Taylor Hill, “NO EVIL” [6]begins to dive into the perception of self and how the “bad concepts” are from one’s ability to identify themselves.
And while abstract as it may seems, SiR’s relationship with versatility should be studied. He flips into Track 7’s “POETRY IN MOTION” displaying not only a sample from Drake’s 2010’s “Thank Me Later’ but what almost feels like a light switch. It’s a quick dose of desire where he catches himself & begins to bare his humility on “I’M NOT PERFECT” [8] which marks not onlythe middle of the album but stands as the end of his reflective period and makes way for the beginning of his redemption arc.
It's the love that SiR gains from his honest that lands us into the trifecta of “YOU”, “ONLY HUMAN” & “SATIFACTION” [9 -11], a signature 3 piece that brings in a sigh of relief as we dive deeper in the opus of “HEAVY”. We collect the sense of serenity from SiR’s energy being regainthrough more entries of captivating self-reflection.
However, some excerpts in life can often be out of our control but for SiR, he's not only writing his wrongs but righting them as well. “If I don't move, I'll never heal/ Hoping my heart can take the real pain”. [ ONLY HUMAN – TRACK 10]
As we begin to reach the conclusion of the album, we notice how SiR finds peace throughout the consequences of his actions. Happiness isn’t always the first to come to the soul, but peace of mind will always bethe most enduring journey that one will go on in their lifetime. And on “RICKY’S SONG”[13], it all comes along the line of what feels like a moment that gets passed down for generations to come.
Things are more complicated than what they seem yet almost everything is a blessing in disguise and through the energetic D’Angelo sample on “NOTHIN EVEN MATTERS” [14] and the heartfelt round outtrack “TRYIN’ MY HARDEST” [15] we feel the sun beam on our back. SiR’s energy invites us to embrace change. To turn around and see that for us the world around us doesindeed get “BRIGHTER” [16]. This album serves as a brilliant piece of saving yourself from the “floating, fleeting feeling”.
