BRENT FIYAZ - WASTELAND

In a world where honesty and compromise have taken a back seat in terms of relationships. Brent Fiyaz proves that in his sophomore album “WASTELAND”, we can all find temporary euphoria in even the darkest depths featured on this album.

After 2 years since the release of of his 2020 extended play “Fuck The World”,

Brent returns to make one thing clear…

He’s not toxic, he’s just honest.

On “Loose Change” we hear distorted strings after a short confessional intro. Creating the mind feel of awareness on how his new star quality and fame have added pressure to the reality of his relationships. From the sensual undertones of commands, to the feeling of his production as “cold weather music even on the hottest day of the year.” Fiyaz shows his true colors even on the darkest tones featured on these tracks.

Creating a story line through the thick substance of 3 skits, Brent displays the portrayal of his relationship having to pay the ultimate price of fame, dealing with loss of others but most importantly the lost of himself, if he steers down the wrong path.

With tracks like “PRICE OF FAME” aiding Fiyaz’s portrayal of his toxic behavior and “ROLLING STONE” displaying his constant need to be on the move, it’s clear to see that he is well aware of what’s going on around him.

The charm he provokes makes you forgive him when he messes up and you hear that sincerity on tracks like “HEAL YOUR HEART (INTERLUDE)” & “ALL MINE”. This album was made the show that the bad boy does indeed have a heart, a softer side wanting to settle with the one. But will his fame break him away from that mold?

With this album holding singles that are almost as old as 3 years, you could never tell because they still hold the same weight from when they first released, with the symphonic value added to The Neptunes produced “WASTING TIME” and the ominous production for “DEAD MAN WALKING”, It’s easy to see that Brent has some certified classics on his hands. Put aside the star-studded features from Drake, Tyler, The Creator, Alicia Keys and many more, Brent still manages to hold his own even with veteran appearances.

Overall I can say that in the R&B world, I believe that personally we are missing the the sense of upfront honesty created with heart throbbing beats that replicate a stone cold lover’s BPM (“ROLLING STONE”, takes the cake for me) & in-and-out depictions of the “real shit” that goes on between lovers and a man’s revelation for trying to open his own heart.

PERSONAL FAVORITES:
